This time of year can get so expensive. Gifts, parties, decorations, Christmas cards, and the list goes on. I wanted to share with you a list of family fun you can do to spend time together during the Holiday Season without adding (too much) to the already long list of purchases.
What child doesn’t love building a snowman and decorating it or going to a great big sledding hill!! I know mine sure love it! What they love even more is when mom and dad participate in the fun. With our kids getting a little older and more independent, its easy to let them just play outside alone. But making memories together out in the snow is something that will stay with your kids forever!!
Make Decorations or Cards for a Senior Living Home
A fun way to show love this holiday is to grab your construction paper, markers, and crayons and make decorations or cards for the people at your local Senior Living Centers. Some ideas could be to make hand made snowflakes, paper chains they could put in their rooms, or even just a card saying Merry Christmas. This is a great way to share with your kids how to spread the Love of Jesus during this time of year.
Christmas Movie Night
We do this probably a few times throughout the Holidays. We put on our coziest christmas pj’s and grab a few blankest and head to the basement. When we do a Christmas movie we try and watch at least one new one every year. We sometimes do cookies and hot chocolate and other times its my hubbies fav, popcorn! This is the easiest way to have cozy family time and it allows everyone to slow down during the holiday business!
Decorate a Gingerbread House
What child does not love to have gobs of candy spread out in front of them with icing and gingerbread cookies!?! This is one of my kids favorites! It allows them to be creative and sneak in a few pieces of candy while decorating. Are you the mom that has to help to make sure it’s perfect or do you sit back and watch the mess happen!! lol This year, I let the messiness happen!
Drive around to see Christmas Lights
One of the easiest and cheapest way to spend time together celebrating the season is to just simply drive around and see your neighborhood lights. A fun way to make it more exciting is to turn it into a little Polar Express. Make tickets for the kids and put them on their pillow when they go to bed. Then instead of going to bed, announce they are riding the Polar Express. Have hot chocolate ready and a treat for the road and off you go for a family night of lights!
A fun way to spread JOY during the holiday season is to grab some friends and neighbors and go caroling. Everyone loves to answer their door and have Christmas songs coming at them! You can do your neighborhood or check and see about going to a children’s hospital or a retirement home. Wherever you go, it is sure to bring smiles to all!! May and I went with her girl scouts and the amount of joy it brought to people when they opened their door was so fun to see!!
I hope these ideas give you and your family some fun ways to spend time together this month! It is easy to feel like you are always spending money, but theses are some very inexpensive ways to enjoy some fun things during the holidays together! No matter what you do, remember the reason for the season!!
