You guys, from the moment I tried on my first pair of Aerie leggings I knew I was going to be going back for more! Not only did I fall in love with their clothes, I fell in love with their message!!
A few months ago a good friend of mine that I met at the Haven Conference invited me to go see the amazing Jenna Kutcher speak at an Aerie Real event. I had never been to an @Aerie store but was excited to meet Jenna! I mean, who wouldn’t be! She is inspiring, smart, funny, and full of wisdom! I was going soak in every last word from her!
Not only was Jenna Kutcher there, but a few aerie real models joined her. What I fell in love with about the store is that they did a campaign called Aerie Real and they use women of all body types and sizes as their models. These are everyday women like you and me. Not the size double 0 models that are also touched up in their ads. There is no touching up and they have REAL bodies!
Not only just real women, but women that have disabilities or scars, chronic illnesses, stretch marks (hello, dont we all have those!), and are in wheelchairs or have braces. This definitely hit home and made me so excited about the future for young girls!! Many of you may not know but Mayleigh had a colostomy bag when she first came home from China. She only had it for about 8 months until she had reconstructive surgery, but one of the aerie real models has a colostomy bag. JUST LOVE IT!
I could have cried thinking about my daughter who has quite a few scars on her belly. A few small ones you may never notice, but one very large one right on her belly. I remember when she was first came home and Jeff said, why are you going to put her in a bikini? He thought everyone was going to ask what was wrong. First of all, no one ever has, and if they did, I will proudly tell them why she has scars. I told my husband I don’t ever want her to feel like she needs to cover that scar up. That is part of her and part of her story. If I make her feel like she needs to cover it, she will never be confident in her own skin!
Society has pushed people to feel like they need to look a certain way. We are constantly seeing ads of “perfect” bodies, skin and hair. It is so refreshing to see Aerie have this real campaign and empowering women to love their body with flaws and all!
I was a college diver and then trained for the 2004 Athens Olympics. I was judged everyday in my swimsuit. Talk about body image issues! It was hard to not think “oh, if I could just be skinnier” or “if I could just be more toned in my arms”. We monitored our food very carefully and met with nutritionist and sports psychologist weekly. Honesty, if it weren’t for them, I would have also been struggling with an unhealthy relationship with food.
Now I am a mom of 4. Has my body changed from the days of working out 8 hours a day…..ABSOLUTELY!! It was hard going from an elite level athlete to a busy mom. Right now my first priority isn’t the gym. My stomach does not have ab muscles, my arms aren’t as toned as they once were. But inevitably are bodies will not look the same as we age. But loving your body, changes and all, is so important!
Guess what…you are in luck friends!! Aerie is having 40% off everything in the store sale through 9/3!
It was hard picking my favorites to show you because literally I love it ALL!! But here are a few things I am eyeing for fall!
